A30 Shallowater to Colliford - Resurfacing

We’re resurfacing the A30 (eastbound) from Temple Junction through to Colliford. This will maintain and improve safety for everyone using the road and reduce the need for any unplanned closures.

We’ll be carrying out this work on weeknights (Monday – Friday between 8pm – 6am).This is when there is the least amount of traffic using the road.

While we’re working, we’ll be using a convoy system on the eastbound A30. This means the A30 is still open, but you will be taken past the working area behind a traffic vehicle at a reduced speed.

Works will start on Monday 23 June. It will take up to six weeks to complete our works.

The road will be open as usual during the day and at weekends.

Closures and diversions

The central reservation gaps on the A30 at Shallowater and Colliford Lake will be closed for a small number of shifts when we’re working in those areas.

When the central reservation gaps are closed, there will be short, well signed diversions in place:

  • for westbound traffic wanting to join the A30 eastbound, a short diversion will be in place via Temple Tor junction
  • for eastbound traffic wishing to join the A30 westbound, a short diversion will be in place via the Jamaica Inn junction

This work is subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress. If we’re unable to complete our work as planned, we may need to continue beyond the dates stated above.

Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journeys.

Please remember that closures can change at short notice. You can check the latest information on our daily closures page or find live travel information on our Traffic England. Our travel alerts give details of live incidents on our network.

An Important Message from Tamar2Moor Community Partnership

The latest year of validated injury collision data for the A388 shows there were eight collisions where someone was killed or seriously injured.  In light of this, and as a result of concerns raised by the Tamar to Moor Community Area Partnership, a toolkit has been developed to promote key road safety messages across the area as part of an A388 Community Road Safety Campaign.

With the above in mind, the A388 Road Safety Toolkit has now been launched.  This toolkit has images and wording which can be used by you, and your community, to support the Campaign which will take place over the next few months.  A digital version of the toolkit and all the images can also be accessed here - Safer roads - Cornwall Council

Most collisions on the A388 over the last ten years have been caused by driver/rider error and not paying enough attention to the road ahead. You cannot predict what other road users are planning to do, so stay alert, avoid distraction and keep your eyes on the road.

Linkinhorne, a rural parish in South East Cornwall, stretches from the River Inny in the north-east to the expanses of Bodmin Moor in the west. The River Lynher meanders across the Parish through secluded valleys and by gently rolling fields.

The three largest villages are Minions, Rilla Mill and Upton Cross; there are also the settlements of Henwood, Linkinhorne and Bray Shop as well as dozens of other small hamlets such as Caradon Town, Downgate, Ley Mill, Plushabridge, etc.

The western parts of Linkinhorne parish lie on the eastern slopes of Bodmin Moor, an area of granite moorland, rising to over 380m above sea level at Sharptor, above the Cheesewring, a granite outcrop of apparently precariously balanced rocks. The highest village in the parish is Minions, at 302m asl.

Travelling east from the Moor, the land drops to the gentler hills and river valleys which cover most of the parish. Most of this land is agricultural or woodland; the climate is mild and rarely is there prolonged cold in the winter - snow and frost rarely lasting more than a day or two.

There are no major roads in the parish. Two classified roads, the B3254, running north-south and the B3257 running northwest-southeast cross the parish, providing road links to Launceston, Liskeard and Callington.
